International applicants

Round 3 (Jan. 4, 2027) is the final deadline for international applicants not currently on student visas in the U.S.; Round 4 (Feb. 19, 2027) is the final deadline for international applicants currently in active F-1 status in the U.S.; Rounds 5 and 6 are for domestic applicants only. Non-U.S. degrees need a WES (ICAP) or ECE course-by-course evaluation (U.S. version) before you submit; allow six to eight weeks. No proof of funds at application; confirmation of financial resources is required if admitted. STEM-designated: student-visa graduates can apply for OPT extension of up to 36 months. International students on F/J visas are not eligible for U.S. federal aid.

Requirements

  • WES or ECE course-by-course evaluation (non-U.S. degrees only)Required

    Only for applicants who have earned or will earn their undergraduate degree from a non-U.S. institution: a WES Course-by-Course (ICAP) or ECE Course-by-Course Evaluation Report (U.S. version; Canadian version not accepted), completed before you submit the application. Send it to the U-M Ross School of Business - One-Year Master's Programs and upload your personal copy. Allow six to eight weeks.

  • ResumeRequired

    Up-to-date education and professional experience with dates matching the application; may include community/professional service and hobbies/interests.

  • Transcripts (unofficial at application)Required

    From every undergraduate or postgraduate institution attended. Unofficial transcripts uploaded to the application are sufficient for evaluation; final official transcripts required from every institution before starting if admitted. International applicants upload copies of academic records and diploma (or proof of degree conferral) with certified literal English translations if not in English; notarized copies not accepted.

  • Recommendation (program-specific form)1 letter

    One individual who can discuss either your academic or professional performance (e.g. professor, instructor, supervisor, manager). No family members or personal acquaintances.

    One recommendation submitted by the recommender through the online application system (the form and/or an uploaded letter); separately sent letters are not accepted. It should be received by the deadline date.

  • GMAT or GRERequired — waiver possible

    GMAT or GRE, taken at a test center or online; scores valid five years from the exam date. Self-report or upload an unofficial score report; official reports only if admitted. Highest total score from a single attempt is used (no mixing sections across dates; GMAT Superscore not used this cycle). No minimum score; the FAQ recommends the 70th percentile or higher on the GMAT total or on the GRE verbal and quantitative sections.

    Waiver / exemption: Waived for anyone whose cumulative (not major) undergraduate GPA is 3.30 or above at the time of application, rounded from the third decimal (3.295 qualifies). Applicants who need a credential evaluation qualify on the evaluation's GPA. The committee may still request scores. Applicants who meet the waiver may still submit scores (answer 'No' to the 3.30 GPA question in the application).

  • Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFL iBTIf your degree wasn't taught in EnglishRequired

    Duolingo English Test (DET): No minimum score; the FAQ recommends at least 130. Send scores to 'University of Michigan - Ann Arbor'. Must be taken no more than two years before the application deadline (FAQ: valid two years from the exam date; the application must be submitted within that period).

    IELTS: No minimum score; the FAQ recommends at least 7.0. Send scores to 'University of Michigan - Ann Arbor'. Must be taken no more than two years before the application deadline (FAQ: valid two years from the exam date; the application must be submitted within that period).

    TOEFL iBT: Internet-based (iBT) version required. No minimum score; the FAQ recommends a total of at least 100. Must be taken no more than two years before the application deadline (FAQ: valid two years from the exam date; the application must be submitted within that period).

    Waiver / exemption: Required if your native language is not English. Exempt: international applicants who studied at an accredited institution where English was the sole language of instruction for the entirety of their undergraduate degree.

  • PTE (not accepted)If your degree wasn't taught in EnglishNot accepted

    The FAQ says: 'We do not accept PTE scores.'

  • Asynchronous video interview (Kira Talent)Required · with the application · Kira Talent

    Required of One-Year Master's applicants. Once invited by email, complete it by the stated deadline. Unlimited practice questions; timed preparation and responses; behavioral questions; business casual attire; photo ID in English shown at the start (FAQ).

Who can apply

  • Bachelor's degreeRequired

    U.S. bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, or the international equivalent, earned by the start of the program. Applicants may apply while the degree is in progress. Most three-year bachelor's degrees accepted if equivalent to a four-year U.S. degree.

  • One college course in computer programmingRequired

    One college course for credit in computer programming, completed before the program starts; it may be complete, in progress, or intended when you apply (strong preference for completed coursework). Must be taken in person or online at an accredited (or government-recognized) community college or four-year university, earn college credit with a grade of C or better, and cover coding concepts (preferably Python or R: variables, conditionals, loops, functions, data structures, basic programs). No waivers based on work experience with coding.

  • STEM, business, economics or equivalent quantitative majorRequired

    Bachelor's degree must be in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), business, economics, or an equivalent quantitative major. Unsure applicants can email rossmban@umich.edu with an unofficial transcript for a case-by-case review (FAQ).
