How the rounds work

One application deadline (January 5, 2027, 3:00 p.m. ET); decisions by March 2027, earlier for candidates denied without an interview. No rolling admissions: 'Applications will be reviewed after the deadline.'

International applicants

No English proficiency exam: TOEFL and IELTS scores are not accepted; English language ability is assessed during the interview. A three-year undergraduate degree from outside the U.S. is accepted. Non-English transcripts need the original plus a certified translation; an outside credential evaluation is not mandatory. STEM-designated: eligible MIT-sponsored F-1 graduates may apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.

Requirements

  • Resume (one page)Required

    Please submit a one-page resume: one-page limit, Times New Roman font, size 10 font, Word or PDF formats only, in reverse chronological order.

  • Transcripts (scanned upload)Required

    Scan and upload transcripts from all colleges and universities you attended or are currently attending (most up-to-date transcript if still enrolled). Non-English transcripts: upload the original and a certified translation. Digitally signed or encrypted transcripts are not accepted; do not mail hard copies. If admitted, an official, signed and sealed transcript from all schools attended is required.

  • Letters of recommendation3 letters

    Current students: three academic letters from your current institution, preferably from professors. Working professionals (full-time): one professional letter from your current or most recent employer (listed in the Employment Section) and two academic letters, preferably from professors. One of the three letters must come from someone who can speak to your quantitative abilities. No recommendations from family members.

    MBAn applicants must submit three letters of recommendation. Recommenders submit online, in letter or short-answer format, no more than two pages; letters must be received by the deadline.

  • GMAT or GREOptional

    GMAT (optional): Submission of a standardized test, such as the GMAT (Focus Edition or 10th Edition) or GRE, is optional. Applicants without a test score are reviewed with no negative inferences. Self-reported scores accepted by the application deadline. Evaluation focuses on single-attempt scores, not GMAT Superscore. No minimum score.

    GRE (optional): Submission of a standardized test, such as the GMAT (Focus Edition or 10th Edition) or GRE, is optional. Applicants without a test score are reviewed with no negative inferences. Self-reported scores accepted by the application deadline; in-person or online exams welcome. GRE School Code: 3845. No minimum score.

  • Interview (required, by invitation only)Required

    Interviews are required for admission to the MBAn program and are offered by invitation only. One-on-one with a member of the Admissions Committee; behavioral and technical questions (math, probability, statistics, computer science); about 20–30 minutes; conducted virtually and scheduled in Eastern Time. English language proficiency is also assessed.

  • Video Question 1 (up to 90 seconds)Required · with the application

    Prompt: “Every applicant has a story that can’t be captured in a resume. Take up to 90 seconds to share yours: who you are, where you come from, and what’s shaped the person you are today. Be conversational and be yourself. We can’t wait to meet you.” No more than 90 seconds long; single take (no editing); speak directly to the camera; no background music or subtitles; avoid reading from a script.

  • Video Question 2 (randomly generated question)Required · with the application

    All MBAn applicants will be prompted to respond to a randomly generated, open-ended question. No prior preparation is required; do not read a pre-scripted answer. Applicants will only have one opportunity to record their response; no re-recordings are allowed. Example questions: “What achievement are you most proud of and why?”

    All applicants must hold a four-year undergraduate degree or a three-year equivalent undergraduate degree from outside the U.S. by the time of matriculation.

  • Calculus (strongly suggested, not required)Optional

    Although not required, we strongly suggest candidates have a demonstrated understanding of key concepts in linear algebra, probability, calculus, and computer programming. The application asks for coursework in Multivariable Calculus.

    Although not required, we strongly suggest candidates have a demonstrated understanding of key concepts in linear algebra, probability, calculus, and computer programming.
