How the rounds work

Four rounds. Later rounds are filled on a case-by-case basis and based on availability; applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

International applicants

Round 2 (Step 1 due January 12, 2027) is the final deadline for international students; the deadline is set to allow time for visa processing and applications received after it can't be considered. International application fee is $90 (U.S. applicants $65) and Graduate School fee waivers aren't available to international citizens. TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo English Test required unless exempt (applicants from a listed qualifying country, or holders of a bachelor's degree from an institution in the U.S. or a qualifying country). Those enrolling in F-1/J-1 status must submit the Certification of Financial Responsibility form (for immigration documents, not part of the admissions application) and pay international health insurance and ISSS fees on top of tuition. STEM-designated: F-1 graduates may qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension.

Requirements

  • Transcripts from all institutionsRequired

Step 1: upload transcripts from all higher education institutions attended to the McCombs application (an Academic Supplements section helps the admissions committee understand course titles on your transcript). Step 2: provide an official transcript from every senior college attended through the Graduate School's MyStatus; courses must be documented by the institution where they were taken. Foreign-language transcripts must be translated into English. UT Austin students/graduates don't upload their UT transcript (a $20 fee is charged instead). Failing to list all colleges may cancel the application or offer.

  • Letters of recommendation2 letters

Letters should come from professors or professionals you have worked with; at least one should come from a professor or academic connection. If you completed your undergraduate degree more than three years ago, it may be appropriate for letters to come exclusively from professional recommenders. No personal/family recommendations.

MSBAi requires two (2) letters of recommendation, submitted through the McCombs application.

  • GMAT / GMAT Focus, GRE or GMATOptional

GRE/GMAT scores are optional for all applicants, and applicants aren't disadvantaged for not submitting. GMAT, GMAT Focus and GRE are accepted with no preference. If you submit a score, you must enter it and upload a score report to submit the McCombs application, and have official scores sent to UT Austin (GRE code 6882; MSBAi GMAT code 396-44-73). FAQ: competitive MSBA applicants usually score at or above the 60th percentile (verbal or quantitative).

  • Duolingo English Test, IELTS Academic or TOEFL iBTIf your degree wasn't taught in EnglishRequired

Duolingo English Test (DET): Graduate School minimum: 115 overall. Send to 'University of Texas at Austin - Graduate Admissions'; valid 2 years.

IELTS Academic: Graduate School minimum: overall band 6.5 on the Academic exam; IELTS General Training not accepted. The MSBAi FAQ says an IELTS of 7 is expected. Send via IELTS electronic delivery to the 'University of Texas at Austin' account; valid 2 years.

TOEFL iBT: Graduate School minimum: 79 (120 scale) or 4 (6-point scale), internet-based test; the TOEFL ITP is not accepted. The MSBAi FAQ says a TOEFL score of 100 is expected. Scores must be sent by ETS (code 6882); self-reported scores not accepted; valid 2 years.

Waiver / exemption: Required of international students. Exempt: applicants from a qualifying country (American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada (except Quebec), Dominica, Ghana, Grenada, Grand Cayman, Guyana, India, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Singapore, Trinidad/Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United Kingdom, U.S. Pacific Trust), or holders of a bachelor's degree from an institution in the U.S. or a qualifying country. A master's degree alone (without such a bachelor's) doesn't waive it.

  • PTE Academic (not listed)If your degree wasn't taught in EnglishNot accepted

Not listed: UT Austin's "What We Accept" list names TOEFL, IELTS and DET for English proficiency.

  • Interview (selected applicants)If invited

The decision section says decisions are sent after the committee has reviewed applications and interviewed selected applicants. No format details are published.
