How the rounds work

Four fall deadlines (Priority, Early, Regular, Final). 'Application Deadline Extended: See details below': applicants from the United States (domestic) are considered case by case, and domestic and international applicants email whitmangrad@syr.edu to ask about eligibility/timing. Applications still incomplete after the final deadline are withdrawn. Allow 10 business days for delivery of the decision letter.

International applicants

Non-U.S. citizens/permanent residents submit TOEFL iBT (min 100, speaking 23 preferred), IELTS Academic (min 7.0) or Duolingo (min 130); exempt if a citizen of one of the countries listed on the checklist (e.g. Australia, Canada except Quebec, Nigeria, Singapore, United Kingdom), or waivable after three years of in-person study in the U.S., U.K., Australia or English-speaking Canada. Unofficial transcripts in English for review; official records after admission; a non-U.S. degree should equal a U.S. bachelor's (generally four years; WES or NACES/NAFSA/AACRAO course-by-course evaluation if not; India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal: BE/BT or a master's). Proof of funding for the first year is needed for the I-20; upload financial documents with the application. International students are strongly encouraged to apply by November or January to allow time for the financial documentation. STEM-designated. No on-campus graduate housing.
