How the rounds work
One deadline per applicant group under 'Important dates (2027)': international applications due February 1, domestic applications due May 1. Fall intake only ('We are not currently offering intake for spring semesters'). 'The review process will not begin until the application closes, with decisions sent out approximately six weeks later.' Current and recent Texas A&M students applying to the CSE or ECEN tracks may use QuickAdmit, which has its own dates (see _unpublished).
International applicants
Apply through Texas A&M's GraduateCAS. International applicants must have a satisfactory TOEFL or IELTS score; the university minimums are TOEFL iBT 80 (tests before January 21, 2026) or 4.5 with at least 4.0 per section (tests on or after January 21, 2026), TOEFL Essentials 8.5, or IELTS Academic 6.0 overall, all within two years (MyBest TOEFL scores not accepted). Citizens of listed English-speaking countries and holders of a Bachelor's or Master's degree completed at an accredited U.S. institution meet the requirement; a GRE Verbal score of 146 or a GMAT Verbal score of 77 (new scale) may also meet it, subject to departmental approval. The MSDS FAQ adds that low English scores on the GRE verbal or TOEFL (e.g., less than 100 on the iBT) greatly reduce the chances for admission. Scores may be self-reported to apply; once admitted, official scores must be sent by the testing service (institution code 6003). The $90 international application fee cannot be waived, and MSDS awards no application fee waivers. Three-year bachelor's degrees are checked against the Office of Admissions' list of degree equivalencies by country. Funding opportunities for international students are listed by the Graduate and Professional School.
