How the rounds work

No rolling admission stated. Students interested in applying post-deadline must contact Engineering Master's Admissions at pratt_masters@duke.edu.

International applicants

Same rounds for all applicants. Duke does not require financial support documents as part of the application; they are submitted after admission and enrollment. Duke does not automatically issue I-20s upon admission; enrolling students who accepted the offer and paid the enrollment deposit receive visa instructions by email and in the application portal. The Duolingo English Test is the preferred English test.

Requirements

    Resume highlighting experience, activities and leadership; a maximum of 1-2 pages. Work experience is not required for the campus program.

  • Short answer questions (three, 1,500 characters each)Required

    Short answer questions specific to the AIPI program; the limit is 1,500 characters, including spaces.

  • Unofficial transcripts and grade scaleRequired

    Upload one (1) copy of a scanned unofficial transcript from each institution attended where you earned academic credit (PDF, max 1.5 MB). Official transcripts are required only if admitted. Undergraduate GPA, plus grade scales if your school does not use the 4.0 scale. Non-English transcripts need a professional English translation. Extra documents for applicants from universities in China and India.

  • Letters of recommendation3 letters

    Academic – at least one (1) for recent graduates; Industry/professional – not required but helpful (e.g. internship supervisor, full-time job supervisor, research advisor). Personal recommendations are not appropriate.

    Three (3) for Master's Campus. Recommenders get a link by email to submit electronically.

  • GRE (optional)Optional

    Submission of official GRE scores is optional for 2027 applicants. Scores must come directly from ETS (institution code 5156, department code 5199) and arrive before the application deadline. Self-reported scores can't be entered; GRE at Home accepted. No minimum GRE score.

  • Duolingo English Test, IELTS or TOEFLIf your degree wasn't taught in EnglishRequired

    Duolingo English Test (preferred): The Duolingo English Test is the preferred language testing option. No minimum English test score. If admitted, enrolling at Duke and not exempt, DET scores are required for language assessment even if TOEFL or IELTS was submitted.

    IELTS: Applicants may opt to submit official IELTS scores (report to 'Duke University Pratt School of Engineering'). No minimum English test score. If admitted, enrolling at Duke and not exempt, Duolingo English Test scores are also required before the term begins, at your expense.

    TOEFL: Applicants may opt to submit official TOEFL scores (institution code 5156, no department code). No minimum English test score. If admitted, enrolling at Duke and not exempt, Duolingo English Test scores are also required before the term begins, at your expense.

    Waiver / exemption: Pratt grants exemptions/waivers if: you are a citizen of a country in the Exemption/Waivers by Country of Citizenship table (e.g. India, Canada, United Kingdom, Nigeria, Singapore); English is your native/primary language; you completed at least 3 full years (6 semesters) of undergraduate and/or graduate education in English-only instruction in a country where English is the official language AND English is a dominant language for you; or you are a Duke Kunshan University or Duke University undergraduate who has completed at least 3 full years. If exempt, do not submit English test scores.

  • Probability/statistics and linear algebra (preferred)Optional

    Prior coursework in probability/statistics and linear algebra are preferred, but not required.
